How To Choose Running Tops

Best Fabrics for Running in Hot Weather

What are the best fabrics for running?  Fabrics that keep you cool, comfortable and smelling sweet, or at least not smelling like a boys locker room after a hockey game.  I’ll share my favorite 2 fabrics here. I live in a hot climate, so comfortable running gear is an essential.  Yesterday the temperature reached 106 F.  Hot baby, very hot.   Though I won’t run outdoors when it’s over 100 F, it can still be sticky and humid when running in the air-conditioned gym. I rely upon my favorite running gear to keep me cool and comfortable as can possibly be.  Therefore, look for summer running tops which have UV protection properties. What makes running wear different from other sports wear is the use of technical fabrics that remove perspiration from your skin, preventing uncomfortable chafing caused by the build-up of moisture. The materials used are breathable, light and durable – designed to keep you dry and comfortable. The top 2 running top fabrics which are suitable for running in warmer weather conditions are shown below.

  • Silver Fiber:   Believe it or not, this fabric actually has real silver in the fabric, which gives the clothing a subtle shimmer that makes it most attractive. Also the silver within makes the fabric anti-bacterial, which means no-stink! It washes like a dream.  These Silver fibers fight odor and move heat and moisture out!
  • Polyester/Spandex:   Running tops made from synthetic materials such as polyester and spandex will  keep you dry during runs of all lengths.   Polyester and spandex materials resists wrinkling and it dries quickly.
